How To Make Frappuccino At Home
Especially on hot summer days, there is nothing better than a delicious frappuccino. The popular coffee specialty not only looks fantastic but also provides pleasant refreshment!
Today we will show you how you can easily prepare this coffee trend from espresso, milk, and ice cubes at home and refine it with various toppings.
What Is A Frappuccino?
A frappuccino is basically a cold mixed drink that consists mostly of espresso, milk, and ice cubes. Depending on your taste, you can spice up the trend drink with other ingredients such as cream, chocolate, or syrup.
You can easily prepare a frappuccino at home in just a few simple steps. There are no limits to your imagination when it comes to preparation because the basic recipe can be individually adapted to your personal preferences. For example, you can use a vegan milk alternative instead of cow’s milk or vary the toppings used.
The frappuccino is often confused with a café frappé. However, this drink consists of foamed instant coffee mixed with ice cubes. The first café frappé was created by accident in Greece in 1957. When Dimitrios Vakondios didn’t have any hot water at hand, he decided without further ado to make a kind of iced coffee to manufacture. To do this, he mixed instant coffee powder, which was already very common in Greece at the time, with cold water and a little sugar.
Then he added some ice cubes and shook everything well in a shaker. Since the creation was also very well received by Vakondios’ colleagues, it quickly gained notoriety. The café frappé, which was created through simple experimentation, is now the most popular cold drink in Greece. The decisive difference in the frappuccino is the addition of the toppings because a caffé frappé is not originally enriched with milk, cream, or syrup.
The History of the Frappuccino
Although the cold drink is associated in particular with the Starbucks company, it was not invented by the American cult coffee house chain. In fact, the history of the Frappuccino began way back in 1992. That was the year George Howell found out, coffee connection owner, about the trend of mixing chilled cappuccino drinks. Enthusiastic about the idea, he asked his young marketing manager to develop such a coffee specialty for his own café.
After a few tries, he finally managed to create a unique mixture of coffee, milk, sugar, and ice cream. He finally gave this creation the name “Frappuccino”. Not only did the drink help Howell double the business to 23 cafés in the years that followed, but it also convinced Starbucks, the Coffee Connection chain to take over. With the purchase of the chain in 1994, Starbucks also acquired the rights to the name. After revising the recipe slightly, the company was able to generate $52 million in annual sales in 1996 from Frappuccino sales alone.
